    IX “Eurasia” IFF came to an end

    IX “Eurasia” IFF took place in Almaty from 16 to 21 September 2013 in Almaty.

    12 feature films were presented to the public and international jury.

    New Zealand screenwriter, producer, and director Jane Campion presided over international jury this year. Other jury members included Filipino film director Brillante Mendoza, American screenwriter David Franzoni, founder of the Festival of Three Continents in Nante, Frenchman Philippe Jalladeau and Kazakh film director Emir Baigazin.

    Grand-Prix:
    “In Bloom” by Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß (Georgia, Germany, France)
    Best Director:
    “Bauyr” by Serik Aprymov (Kazakhstan)
    Best Actor:
    Carlo Cecchi, “Miele” directed by Valeria Golino (Italy, France)
    Koh Jia Ler, “Ilo Ilo” directed by Anthony Chen (Singapore)
    Best Actress:
    Jördis Triebel, “My Sisters directed by Lars Kraume” (Germany, France)
    Elaheh Hesari, “Don’t Worry Sarah” directed by Ali Reza Amini (Iran)

    The juries of FIPRESCI (The international federation of film critics) and NETPAC (Network for the promotion of Asian cinema):
    FIPRESCI award
    “Wadjda” by Haifaa Al-Mansour (Saudi Arabia, Germany)

    NETPAC award
    “Bauyr” by Serik Aprymov (Kazakhstan)
    “Waiting for the Sea” by Bakhtyar Khudoinazarov (Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Ukraine)

    One of the most prominent events of the ‘Eurasia” film festival was the 2nd “Spotlight: New Kazakh Cinema”. A jury of international producers, fund managers and experts picked Serik Abishev's “Ademoka” and Adilkhan Yershanov's “Aliyushka” for a joint award. Anton Mitnev and Tulegen Baitukenov received special jury awards.

    The Award that is granted to the notable figure that has made significant contribution in promoting Kazakh cinema worldwide was given to founder of the Festival of Three Continents in Nante Philippe Jalladeau.
    Russian producer of the film  “Shame” (dir. Yusup Razykov) Vladimir Malyshev was honored with a special award of the Festival. During his acceptance speech, he thanked President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A.Nazarbayev for supporting country’s cinema.

    President of the “Eurasia” IFF thanked all the guest and added that “Eurasia” IFF will celebrate its anniversary next year.

    Beyond the main competition program, films from following non-competition programmes were also screened during the festival: “Dynamic Kazakh cinema” which consisted of the most prominent works made within last year by Kazakh filmmakers. Cinema bridge: East - West section which included retrospectives of Brillante Mendoza and Jane Campion, Days of the Russian and Kyrgyz Cinema, The prize-winners of international film festivals, Spotlight World Cinema Fund and Central Asian panorama.
